Art + Design Feature Vol. 02"Great design isn’t just what looks cool, it’s a calculated and balanced blend of form and function that serves a specific purpose. Although, it’s really satisfying when the end result looks cool."
— William Justice
In this series, I'll showcase deviations I found astonishing and/or really creative; and in most cases - why I thought so.
This typeface is one of the most diverse I've ever encountered. With so many different versions of characters, you can create unique and cool slogans and displays.
I'd love to see this fresh and flat reimagination of the UI of WhatsAPP implemented for real!
Also, the mock-up contains super cool humorous easter eggs.
Who wouldn't want tetris sneakers? Seriously now, people!
I especially love the presentation
TeamWork 2014 ! (Extended + TeamWork)You all waited for this moment - TeamWork 2014 is here!
For all those who don't know the project yet, here are some answers to all the questionmarks over your head!
We have extended the sign-up phase for the teachers who haven't yet found a student. Please check out the comments, if you're interested in becoming a student!
Also for the teams that are already matched: Have fun learning and teaching!
What is the project about?
The aim is to team up two artists to achieve a close and individual learning-experience.
One of the two will be the teacher, whereas the other will be the student. (But our teachers will learn through this project just as much, I'm sure )
Teachers will present assignments to their students and provide them with tools, techniques and lessons to achieve the goal they both decided on.
In the end we'll present all the finished assignments in a big chat event and on our group page!

Sign-up sheet - TeamWork 2014If you don't know what this is about, please read more about it here.
Please add a comment below telling us a bit about you, your art and what genre you'd like to teach.
The participants wishing to be your team-partner will reply to your comment. We will then list you two as a team.
Read through the comments written by teachers and see which topic or genre fits your learning-wishes best.
If you found one, simply reply to that comment and we'll match you two as a team.
Please don't comment on this journal for any other reason than signing up for the project!
Please don't comment on this journal to apply as a student, only reply to already existing teacher-offers in the comments.
If there are no teachers left, please consider teaching someone yourself. It can be a lot of fun and I'm sure everyone has something to teach!

Art + Design Feature Vol. 01 " Creativity is not a talent. It is a way of operating. "
- John Cleese
In this new series, I'll showcase deviations I found astonishing and/or really creative; and in most cases - why I thought so.
To start off, this really cool portfolio theme struck me as very clean and unique. Both the colour scheme and the design elements are perfectly used to make this theme dynamic and fresh.
This amazingly detailed spread shows the process of analog photography neatly. With so many elements on the pages, it keeps good balance and doesn't look cluttered.
I think the designer behind this packaging did a great job. Combining soft and warm colours with simple elements and the very neat logo of the product; this sure is a cool packaging design.
Not only is thi
Photographer of the Week: BlueColoursOfNature
This week's Photographer of the Week is BlueColoursOfNature , whose photographs are refreshing, eye-catching and just really well done.
While I concentrated on finding the quintessence of still-life photos in her gallery, I must say, that many of the rest of her photos really are worth a good second look.
What makes :devBlueColoursNature: 's photography so special is, that she seems to view things differently, which makes the perspective, depth of field and overall feel of her pictures that much more interesting and pretty. Her appreciation for beautiful things is visible through all of her photos.
So, now go check the rest of her gallery out, people!
Feel free to note us if you would like to suggest someone to be Photographer of the Week!

Tips For Commission ArtistsHello! I thought of making this small guide, based from my personal experience, to give tips to artists, mostly beginners, to be more successful at selling commissions, since seeing from my previous journal many had difficulty with it. So here are some tips to help boosting your sales.
Have your commission info somewhere visible
Possibly, people won't even know you are taking commissions or if they are open if you don't put your commission info somewhere they can see. You can do this in a journal, that I mostly recommend, since it will be showing into your watcher's inboxes and most of your watchers probably rarely visit your profile page. You could still also use the commission widget, or donation poll to write your info. You can also link to your commission info in your signature or the artist's comment of new drawings you upload.
Keep it simple
Don't add too many unnecessary rules or in

White Knights and Why They're HarmfulThis is quite a huge/concerning topic, and I know that not all deviants share the same point of view, and I respect that. I'm sure that there are many other journals touching upon this subject, but because I personally have had very bad experiences with it, I want to inform my watchers about it myself! Hope it helps some.
So, for the past year or so I've noticed that some people saying that they specifically dislike a lot of "popular" dA artists due to the overprotective behavior of their watchers.
I personally find it very sad that people are turned off by my artwork simply because they associate my username with "[my] white knights".
There's no way I can possibly control what my fanbase does or says, and this can lead to some very awkward situations and conflicts on my end.
Don't get me wrong...I love each and every one of my watchers, in fact without you guys my artistic life would be incredibly more lackluster. I'm sure ma

5 ways to get into the creative zoneDear, deviantart fellow artists
Sometimes we tend to feel unmotivated and uninspired to do anything... but there are also those blissful moments of creativity, when inspiration strikes and time goes by unnoticed. Not getting distracted, going with the flow, so merged in the process, that there is no need to do anything else until the work gets done. But how to get in that mood more often..? Here are some ways/tips that helped me over the time.
1. Prepare your work space
Make the place you work as comfortable and useful as possible. Clean the desk from all the clutter, gather your tools in a most accessible way, organize in order to avoid mess. Set the according light, have some inspiring quotes, goals written around.
2. Avoid distractions
Turn off the internet. Or close all the tabs, you don’t need. Especially, social media sites. Don’t check the news/e-mail/mobile phone all the time. Get in the place where

Do's and don'ts for flawless interactionNot much to say about this.
Just some basic tips and tricks for flawless interaction on DeviantArt
Watch people when you honestly find them interesting.
Watch your friends, even if they don't have amazing art. It helps you stay updated with their progress.
Watch groups. They'll offer you a fine selection of art you're interested in, and will help you discover new (interesting) artists.
Check the faves of people you watch. As you like their work, you might have similar tastes in art. Checking their faves might help you find cool art.
Recommend art from people that you watch for a Daily Deviation (if good art, of course).
Uncheck all boxes when watching. There's nothing more disappointing than an empty watch.
[UPDATE]1,000 watchers giveaway-win points and artIMPORTANT UPDATE 26th July
So, there are two more things I want to say! First of all a little reminder that, if you share this journal, please link back to it here so I can assign a number to you for option 2. I saw some of them in my mention and reminded a few people there, but in case you don't use a thumb, my :icon: or the :dev:, I can't see if you shared it and can't remind you to do so. It would be a pity if you did it and don't have a chance because you forgot to link back - thus, a little reminder to do it if you haven't done it yet! ^^
On another note, please, everyone give a huge huge hug and thanks to BAMART19! He is terribly kind and donated a lot of points for this giveaway, so you should definitely check him out! He has a 60k kiriban as well, if you're interested So go and take a look at this stuff! If you look at the prizes again you will also see that I raised the point prizes and added more of them, and that is

Two CritiqueChats coming up!First of all: a happy, good and optimistic year of 2013 for all of you!
We're going to start the year with something many of us enjoyed the most at Artistle during the last year:
... two of them!
An event in our chatroom :#ArtistleChat: where we all meet up, share our work and give and receive honest and helpful critique.
The first of them is going to be on
Sunday, 13th January 2013, 2 pm London Time.
(Check for timezones and your local time for this event here.)
The second of them is going to be on
Sunday, 20th January 2013, 10 am London Time
, and I hope with this we have chosen a good time for our Australian members, as well.
(Check here for your local time for this event.)
if you need help making it through the dayremember:
The Coffee GodThe Coffee God behind the counter shuffles foot to foot, a dance of steam and espresso. Black painted fingernails, inch gauged ears and a gray striped sweatshirt, hood crooked on his back. There's a cigarette tucked behind one ear; it bobs and twitches with each step.
“Non-fat caramel latte,” he calls, just as he always does, part of a spell, part of a mantra, toneless (just a tuck at the end). I reach. He looks up.
The espresso maker hisses.
There's something like a grin, something like a spark, something like a shared secret linked eye to eye. When he passes over the drink (rough cardboard sleeve hot to the touch), he lingers. Our fingers brush, a shiver, a jolt, a ten-watt shock.
The Coffee God tilts his chin, shouts, “Hey, mind if I take my break now?”
and ducks around the counter without waiting for a reply.
He slips his cigarette between his lips without taking his eyes from mine. I follow him out the door.
Keep in Touch!
